An early morning start from Chopta is ideal for the journey to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world, perched at an altitude of 3,680 meters. This ancient temple, part of the Panch Kedar, is steeped in mythology and is believed to be over 1,000 years old, with legends connecting it to the epic Mahabharata. Itineraries
Day 1
Delhi – Haridwar – Ukhimath (225 kms/7 hrs)
Start your journey with a 06:50 hrs train from Delhi to Haridwar. On arrival, meet your guide and drive to Ukhimath, visiting the scenic confluences at Devprayag (Alaknanda and Bhagirathi) and Rudraprayag (Alaknanda and Mandakini) along the way.
Reach Ukhimath by evening, check into your hotel, and enjoy dinner before an overnight stay. At 1,370 meters, Ukhimath is the winter seat of Kedarnath, where the idol of Lord Kedarnath resides during the temple’s closure.
Day 2
Ukhimath - Deoria Tal (2438 mts / 7998 ft)
Wake up to the breathtaking sight of snow-capped Himalayan ranges in the morning. After a hearty breakfast, embark on a trek to Deoria Tal, a serene lake nestled amidst the mountains. The trail winds through dense rhododendron forests, adorned with vibrant wildflowers and lush ferns, offering a truly enchanting experience.
The trek takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to complete. Upon reaching Deoria Tal, set up your tents and immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings. Spend the night under the starry sky, surrounded by the pristine beauty of nature.
Day 3
Deoria Tal - Chopta
Start your day with a scenic 12-km trek to Chopta, passing through dense forests and lush meadows rich with natural beauty. On arrival, set up your tents and relax amidst the pristine surroundings. In the evening, enjoy the breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayan ranges.
Day 4
Chopta - Tungnath (3680 ft / 12070 ft) - Chandrashila (4090 mts / 13415 ft) - Chopta
After an early breakfast, begin your trek to Tungnath, located at an altitude of 3,680 meters. The 3-km uphill trail takes you through lush green meadows, offering panoramic views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks. Upon reaching Tungnath, visit the ancient temple and soak in its serene surroundings. After a brief rest, continue trekking 1 km further to the Chandrashila peak, known for its breathtaking vistas. Later, trek back to Chopta for dinner and an overnight stay.
