Day 1
Cochin - Ooty (275 km / 6hrs)
Pick up from your hotel / railway station / airport in the morning, and then drive to the "queen of Hill Stations" Ooty. En-route you will be mesmerized by awe-inspiring beauty offered by the woods. After crossing Palakkad we will reach Kerala – Tamil Nadu border. Further, continue the drive to Ooty. On arrival, check into a hotel. For the rest of the day relax in the hotel, followed by an overnight stay.
Situated at an altitude of 2240 meters, Ooty was once the most adored and visited summer getaway for Britishers. Presently it stands among the most popular tourist destinations of India. The main attraction of the place is the mountain train journey on a ratchet and pinion track. This wonderful journey begins from Kallar (near Mettupalayam), and a spice is added when it moves through twisted trails with thrilling curves. In the entire tour, the sight of tea gardens, murmuring streams and deep ravines offers a great delight.
Day 2
Ooty
After breakfast leave for a sightseeing tour around Ooty. The first stopover of the tour will be 'The Government Botanical Garden' (Udhagamandalam), established in year 1848. This garden is adorned with thousands of flora species, both exotic and indigenous. Right from the tiny plants, shrubs, bonsai, to huge trees, every member of the flora family is a part of this park. The prime attraction that lures the tourists to the garden is the 20 million years old fossilized tree trunk.
The next beautiful place is the Ooty Lake, a one of a kind artificial lake constructed in 1824 by John Sullivan. This lake was made by damming the water flowing from the mountain streams. Around the lake one can see a border of the Eucalyptus trees, and on one of the shores of this man-made water body runs a railway line. In summers, to be more specific in May, a two days boat pageantry and race is organized.
Later, visit to the second highest mountain of the Nilgiri Hills, the Doddabetta peak at 2637 meters. The first highest is Anaimudi, at a height of 2695 meters. Further, the Doddabetta Mountain is cosseted by a reserved forest area that works as an ecstasy for the visitors. This summit is easily accessible through road, and thus everyone is invited.
Stretched over an area of 300 acres, the next unusual stop is the Hindustan Photo Films Factory (HPF). Situated about 5 kilometers away from the famous Ooty Railway Station, HPF is an industrial unit, which is known for manufacturing various film products.
After exploring all the above mentioned destinations, return to the hotel for lunch. Have a leisure time in the hotel and enjoy the activities organized at the accommodation. Later, have a relaxed overnight stay at the hotel.
